Honey is the sweet substance made from flower nectar by bees. Bees have a tendency to gather a single type of nectar, resulting in the production of distinct types of honeys, each with its own unique flavour. Nevertheless, some honeys are a mixture of different nectars. The colour, flavour, consistency and quality of honey depend on the source of the nectar as well as the production method used.
Honey is considered one of nature’s finest energy giving foods. Honey is a highly concentrated source of many essential nutrients, including large amounts of carbohydrates, some minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, B-complex vitamins and vitamins C, D and E.
Honey is known to be rich in both enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants. In general, higher antioxidant content was found in darker honeys and in honeys with higher water content.
Many studies have shown that honey acts as a barrier in preventing wounds from becoming infected, preventing cross-infection and allowing wound tissues to heal rapidly
Honey is also a healthy natural alternative to processed sugars and artificial sweeteners.
Honey Paradise honey is harvested from specially selected areas in the regions of New Zealand vast mountain ranges. The dew fall is heavier in these areas, producing a superior class of flavoursome honey.
